How many spiritual gifts are there?
Bible scholars don’t agree on the number of gifts. Part of the reason is that there are 3 main lists of gifts in the Bible, and they are all different. So some believe that the gifts listed were meant to be examples and that there might be others. Designed to Serve includes 21 gifts. We chose these gifts for two reasons: 1) They are mentioned in the Bible; and 2) They use a Greek word called charisma that means supernatural power.
Where are spiritual gifts listed in the Bible?
There are 3 main passages related to spiritual gifts: Romans 12:3-7; 1 Corinthians 12-14; and Ephesians 4:1-16. The most important of these passages on spiritual gifts is 1 Corinthians 12. The gift of intercession is discussed in Philippians 1:3-11 and the gift of hospitality is talked about in 1 Peter 4:9-11.
